Born Out of a Real Gap in the Market
VATShelf was founded after its principals experienced first-hand the frustration of losing a substantial government tender because a newly incorporated company had not yet received VAT registration from SARS. The VAT number arrived six weeks later โ after the tender had already been awarded.
That experience made one thing clear: the South African business landscape has no patience for SARS processing timelines. Tenders move quickly. Clients expect invoices with VAT. Banks want to see operational companies. And SARS, by design, is slow.
We built VATShelf as the legal, documented solution. Every company we transfer has been incorporated, maintained, and kept clean specifically to be passed on to a new owner who needs to begin trading now โ not in three to six months.
We are a division of BusinessX Consultants, registered and based in Johannesburg. Our principals have backgrounds in corporate compliance, tax advisory, and South African commercial law. We do not operate as a broker or middleman โ we own and maintain our inventory directly, which means the transfer documentation is complete and the process is fast.
Since 2016, we have assisted clients ranging from sole proprietors entering the market for the first time, to established businesses that need a secondary entity, to international operators entering South Africa who require a locally registered VAT-active vehicle.
